George "Lad" and Karen Short have been married 60 years.
We will have a small dinner party with family and friends when weather permits.
On Jan. 29, 1959, a cold, icy night, George Short, 28, drove with his sweetheart, Karen Nelson, 20, in his old '52 Chevy to her grandparents' home on Bladensburg Road, where her grandfather, Carl Nelson, pastor of Church of Christ, would join them in marriage. They were so excited!
It was a quiet ceremony with only a few family members there, but oh! It was a happy time! It doesn't take long to get married, and we said, "No matter what we will stay married."
In June of 1963 we were blessed with a precious son, Joseph William. Joy! Joy! Joy! A gift from God! When Joe was 23, he married a beautiful girl from Mount Union, Sara Comstock. they gave us two wonderful granddaughters, Allison (Josh) Cody and Aimee Short. George and Karen have three of the most marvelous great-grandchildren, Cade, 8, Maddy, 4, Gracyn, 1 1/2.
We have lived in our little house at 559 S. Moore St. for 56 years. We would be so happy to receive anniversary cards at this address.
It's been a wonderful life. There are no secrets. Happiness is a choice. Scripture says, "This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it." And that's what we do hand in hand one day at a time.
